MAY TOILS AND BLAIR STIRS.

Teresa May's latest pleas to the leaders of the European Union appear to have fallen on stony ground. Indeed, the likes of the high and mighty Jean Claude Juncker have simply refused to come down from their ivory tower, or is it climb out of their concrete bunker ?

While May toils away in Brussel in what seems a fruitless attempt to gain any meaningful concessions from the most pig headed bunch of bureaucrats to exist since Europe's leaders sent millions of men to their deaths in the trenches of World War One, arch egotist and Europhile Tony Blair has been hitting the airwaves.

Not a man to fail to promote his own image and importance at any and every opportunity, Blair has surfaced this morning to reiterate his calls for a second referendum although, in typical Blair fashion, he doesn't call it a referendum; he uses every word or phrase other than referendum. Unlike most, if not all past Prime Ministers, Blair refuses to fade into the background but instead has spent the last decade or so trotting around the world as some sort of Messiah, offering to resolve problems and deliver words of wisdom. Heaven alone knows what he was paid to sort out the difficulties of the Middle East when he was the representative for the so-called Quartet in that area, but his total lack of achievements speak for themselves. Blair is a man long on words and his own brand of wisdom but very short on achievement. Anyone who wants proof need only look at the end product of his tenure as Prime Minister, which was never ending conflict and near bankruptcy.

As an arch-Europhile, Blair held hopes of becoming the first President of a United States of Europe, a hope that was dashed by the UK's unexpected vote to leave the EU. Having had his ambition so bitterly interrupted, Blair turned his attention to trying to convince people of the error of their ways and has enthusiastically championed the cause of Remain ever since. By hook or by crook, Blair will somehow get that top European job, or so he still hopes.

How anyone can take this man seriously is a mystery. A rich, now super-rich, supposed socialist from a privileged background, Blair led a government that was so profligate that, when a crisis occurred, there was nothing left in the coffers with which to fight it; the result was the printing of vast quantities of paper money which had no assets to support it, and a consequent depression of economic growth for year after year. Even now, we are suffering from the effects of Blair's years in office. Additionally, Blair, who now talks about the lies and untruths told by Brexiteers, lied through his teeth about the situation in Iraq and misled Parliament and the nation over his determination to go to war with that country in support of his pal, another arch-egotist, George W Bush.

  

Blair is a man who puts his own interests and what he sees as his place in history far above any other considerations, That he is so ardent when it comes to the UK remaining in the European Union should serve as a warning to all of us. If Blair wants us in, the best place to be has to be OUT.

BLAIR WON'T GIVE UP ON EU.

Tony Blair, a disingenuous and devious politician as well as being an arch-Europhile, is at it again.

Today, he's reported as making some vague remarks about the European Union being prepared to compromise on the issue of immigration into the UK in order to keep us in the Customs Union, Single Market and, in effect, the EU itself. In making these remarks he's been at pains to suggest that he 'knows something' while not actually indicating what, now where his supposed knowledge comes from.

Blair is hell-bent on keeping the UK inside the EU, seeing himself as some kind of 'elder statesman' who knows much better than the fools who want us to leave one of the most bureaucratic and corrupt organisations in the world. His latest attempt to convince us to change our minds centres on an assumption that we only voted as we did because we are opposed to the flood of immigrants coming to our country in recent years, ignoring all of the other reasons for voting to leave.

Of course, immigration is an issue but so is the bureaucracy, the vast tomes of pettifogging rules and regulations, the lack of democracy, the plans for a European super-state and army, the interference from the European Court of Justice, the massive financial 'bail-outs' and general waste of huge amounts of money, and much more.

The EU hamstrings its most productive and successful economies while also bankrupting the poorest. It interferes in more areas of our lives than we can easily know and is highly protectionist; vast subsidies paid to some have to be paid by the rest of us for no good reason. Its accounts have been highly suspect for ever since its foundation, with money spent but no clear understanding of where it's actually gone.

Forget Blair's devious entreaties and vague suggestions. The EU is a club to which we neither need nor want to belong.

BREXIT : PEOPLE TOO STUPID TO UNDERSTAND, SAYS BLAIR.

The arrogance and egotism of Tony Blair truly knows no bounds.

The man who deceived parliament and the country over Iraq's mythical 'weapons of mass destruction', and then led the country into the catastrophic financial collapse of 2008, now intends trying to convince us all to change our minds over leaving the European Union.

Blair believes that he knows better than the rest of us and that those who voted to leave the corrupt and profligate EU simply didn't understand what they were doing. Basically, he says that we were too stupid to make the right choice.

Since being elbowed out of office by his 'colleague', Gordon Brown, Blair has used his status as a former Prime Minister to amass a serious fortune. He still has ambitions to achieve other high political office and was strongly linked to a position as some sort of President of Europe; clearly, he still has such hopes but has to keep the UK within the EU if they are to be realised.

Blair is a desperate man. He is thrashing around trying to find something which will ensure that history remembers him as a political giant rather than as a failed man of straw. Frankly, his attempted return to the political frontline in this way proves his failure. He failed in the UK, he failed in the Middles East and in his European ambitions. He is a failure and his latest attempts to lead us down a path of his choosing should be rejected with vigour.

EU REFERENDUM : IT AIN'T ALL OVER 'TIL THE FAT LADY SINGS !

As the dust clears, it is also becoming clear that some pro-EU campaigners have not given up hope of keeping the UK in the Union, come what may. In particular, that well known champion of democracy, Tony Blair, has said that the UK should 'keep its options open' and suggested that, while Parliament has a duty to act in accordance with the will of the people, that will could change.

Blair has been careful to hedge his remarks with so much waffle that he could, if it came to it, claim that he was doing nothing but expressing an opinion about the overall position, without suggesting that there should be any back-tracking over the referendum result. However, knowing how attached he is to the political status quo and his own best interests, his weasel words can be interpreted in only one way. He is laying the ground for a second referendum or, even, for the possibility that Parliament simply ignores the original result citing changed circumstances, an unacceptable exit negotiation or some other manufactured nonsense as reason.

There is, undoubtedly, a move afoot to find a way round the inconvenient result of the referendum, exactly as there was in previous referendums in other EU member states. On several occasions, countries have got the 'wrong result' in referendums and their governments have simply held others until the 'right result' was achieved. Brexiteers should be under no illusions; the referendum result was far from the final act in this saga. In fact, unless we get a genuinely pro-exit Prime Minister and get on with the process of leaving 'tout suite', we may well never leave.

EU REFERENDUM : WAR IN IRELAND IF WE LEAVE ?

The leaders of the 'Remain' campaign are clearly getting desperate.

Today former Prime Minister John Major was rolled out for the second time this week, along with another former PM, Anthony Charles Lynton Blair. The two former adversaries appeared together to spread more stories to frighten the children; this time it was to tell us all that leaving the European Union would lead to Scotland having another vote on its own independence, and would threaten the 'stability' of Northern Ireland. This last point was subsequently firmly refuted by the Government's own Secretary of State for the province, Teresa Villiers, who stated that the words of the 2 former Prime Ministers were "highly irresponsible". Even without Villiers intervention, the statements of Major and Blair are no more than the utterly unsubstantiated views of 2 dedicated Europhiles, and worthy of little, if any consideration.


While Tony Blair's willingness to prostitute himself in this way is typical of the man, that John Major has now become embroiled in this kind of unsavoury and highly disingenuous misinformation says much for a man of whom I previously had a high regard. That the Government led by David Cameron is prepared to put its name to, and support behind, this kind of outrageous scaremongering shows that Cameron himself is a man who is entirely unsuitable for his role as prime Minister and whom no one should ever trust. It also demonstrates just how desperate the 'Remain' campaigners are becoming.


To my mind, this disgraceful episode tells us one important thing - Cameron and his allies cannot be trusted to tell the truth about anything. They will lie and cheat, fabricate 'evidence' and say anything at all that they think will win the referendum for their preferred option of remaining within the appalling, corrupt organisation known as the European Union.

Show these lying scumbags that we will not be conned. VOTE LEAVE.

EU REFERENDUM : VAROUFAKIS SHOOTS BLAIR'S FOX.

This morning on the 'Andrew Marr' show BBC1, we were graced by the presence of one Tony Blair, well, Anthony Charles Lynton Blair actually; the 'Tony' was only ever an attempt to demonstrate that he was a 'man of the people', which he never was.

Anyway, Blair was his usual disingenuous self, not answering questions and simply repeating a mantra about the horrific economic consequences should the UK vote to leave the EU. In his usual style, Blair showed apparent absolute certainty in his views, saying that everyone knew that leaving the EU would have dire consequences, though without providing any evidence. He also said, bizarrely, that the bulk of immigration into the UK was from non-EU countries, a fact which is clearly disproved by the statistics published by the ONS only a couple of days ago. Clearly, Blair believes the old idea that if you say something often enough and with enough apparent authority, people will believe it to be true; sadly, it is often the case and politicians rely on this gullibility of the electorate time after time.

 His comments came after Liam Fox, a dedicated 'Brexiteer' had concentrated his remarks on the issues of sovereignty and immigration and, much more interestingly, were sandwiched between the comments of a genuine economist, Yanis Varoufakis. The last named is a pro-European who believes that the UK should stay within the EU, but he utterly rejects the economic projections put out by the 'Remain' campaign. As an economist, his stance is that no one can possibly know what the consequences of an exit would be as there is no previous experience from which to develop a model, so all of the projections are just as likely to be wrong as right. In fact, they are meaningless and should be ignored.

The 'Remain' campaign has concentrated its fire on their certainty that voting to leave the EU would be catastrophic for the UK and have backed up their claims with reports from a number of supposedly independent and respected economic forecasting bodies, such as the Bank of England, the IMF, the Treasury and the IFS. All of these bodies use the same basic forecasting models and make the same assumptions about a possible future, and all have been wrong many times in the past. The truth is that most economic forecasting is a matter of politics rather than of economics and can be used to support whatever outcome is required. Varoufakis knows this and admits it, Blair also knows it, but will happily lie through his teeth about it.

Leaving the EU will have consequences but so will staying in. Anyone who wants to live in a United States of Europe governed from Brussels should certainly vote to 'Remain'; anyone who wants to live in a free and independent United Kingdom must VOTE LEAVE.
